Shikhar Dhawan of Punjab Kings celebrating his century during match
Indian cricket stalwart Shikhar Dhawan, while maintaining hope for a national team return, is focused on securing an IPL victory for Punjab Kings. With the Indian team prepping for the upcoming World Cup, Dhawan remains optimistic about his future prospects and aims to contribute to both domestic and franchise cricket.
Chasing the India Dream: Shikhar Dhawan, who last represented India eight months ago, remains resolute in his ambition to make an international comeback. Despite being left out of recent squads, Dhawan’s unwavering dedication and fitness regimen reflect his readiness to seize any opportunity that may arise.
“I will be ready, of course (for the comeback). That is why I keep myself fit (so whenever I get a chance, I am ready). There is always a chance whether it is one percent or 20 percent. I still enjoy training and I still enjoy the game; these are the things in my control. Whatever decision is made, I respect that,” Dhawan affirmed.
IPL Glory on His Mind: Even if a national return remains elusive, Dhawan is determined to lead Punjab Kings to an IPL triumph. The veteran cricketer, renowned for his aggressive batting style, sees the T20 extravaganza as an opportunity to showcase his skills and contribute to his franchise’s success.
“I have not spoken to any selector (about my future). I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there; the facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career and I am grateful for it. Also, I have to prepare for the IPL. I will be playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali and, hopefully, the Vijay Hazare as well,” Dhawan expressed.
An Admirable Journey: With a remarkable tally of over 10,000 international runs, Dhawan reflects on his cricket journey with gratitude. While his chances of featuring in a third consecutive ODI World Cup might be slim, he remains positive and appreciative of his contributions to the Indian cricket team.
“At this stage, you go year by year. Physically I am very fit and I have an IPL to win for Punjab Kings. Hopefully, we can do that next year,” he asserted.
Conclusion: Shikhar Dhawan’s unyielding spirit and commitment to the game continue to shine as he navigates his cricketing journey. While the coveted India jersey remains a goal, Dhawan’s eyes are also firmly set on leading Punjab Kings to IPL glory, showcasing his prowess in domestic tournaments, and contributing to the sport he holds dear.
